Build a calmer
recovery loop.
Everything you need to connect Dunning to your billing workflow, manage overdue invoices, configure policy-bound recovery agents, and understand every human handoff. This guide explains what each workspace screen does, what the controls change, and what to expect when a provider or agent action is still pending.
Dunning is dashboard-first: there is no general-purpose public API in the current product. Your team configures sources, rules, messages, reviews, and billing from the authenticated workspace. Provider credentials are used only through the integration flow and provider-specific capabilities vary.
Quick start
Get up and running in three steps. Dunning works alongside your existing billing provider.
Connect a billing provider
Dunning connects to your existing billing stack to bring invoice and payment context into the recovery workspace. In Sources, connected platforms show their connection type and can be disconnected. In Directory, choose a platform, then follow the OAuth redirect or enter an API key in the provider dialog. Credentials are stored through the application’s secret-handling path; the exact connection method and available actions depend on the provider.
How Dunning works
Dunning operates as a policy-controlled middle layer between your billing provider and your customer. An invoice enters the workspace, the agent reads available context and inbound replies, deterministic gates evaluate the permitted action, and only an authorized workflow can draft or send a message. Low-confidence or sensitive cases move to human oversight.
Recovery rules
Recovery rules determine how the agent follows up. Active Rules lists each rule, its preset persona, cadence, grace period, and maximum discount. Create or edit a rule with Rule Name, Agent Persona (Preset), optional Custom Brand Voice Instructions, Follow-up Cadence, Grace Period (Days), and Max Discount (%). Only organization admins can create, edit, delete, or make a rule the default; the default rule cannot be deleted until another rule is selected.
Overview & analytics
The Dashboard summarizes Total Invoices, Revenue Recovered, Revenue At Risk, and Revenue Lost. Performance Pipeline / Revenue Breakdown expresses the three revenue buckets as percentages of their combined total. At Risk represents invoices currently in negotiation or active recovery; Lost represents unrecoverable or cancelled value. Recent invoices shows the latest five records and View all opens Invoices.
Invoice workspace
All Invoices shows the workspace invoice table. Pending includes pending and active records; In Progress shows active recovery; Negotiated shows negotiated outcomes; Resolved shows completed recovery; and Cancelled shows records excluded from further AI follow-ups. Select a row to change its Recovery Rule or Status, then confirm the modal. Select multiple rows to apply a bulk status update; marking an invoice Cancelled stops its AI follow-ups, while returning it to Pending allows unresolved follow-up to resume.
Conversation view
Clicking an invoice ID opens its Thread / Conversation view. Read customer, AI, and human messages; inspect the current invoice and rule; review agent activity and the decision trace; and view a payment link when one was generated. Human replies are sent from the thread and should be used when the case requires context or judgment.
Agent Control Center
Monitor agent runs, stages, retry counts, errors, and timestamps. Runs can be queued, running, waiting for review, succeeded, or failed. Human review tasks can be resumed, paused, or closed.
Integrations
Connected endpoints lists webhook destinations saved for your workspace. Endpoint setup contains Endpoint URL and Event filters. Add an HTTPS endpoint you control, select the events it should receive, and save it. Delivery is asynchronous; failed requests are logged. Webhooks are outbound alerts, not a general-purpose public API.
Webhooks & alerts
Configure an HTTPS endpoint and select supported event types in Webhooks & Alerts. Dunning posts a formatted notification containing the event name and event details. Delivery is asynchronous and failed requests are logged for operational troubleshooting.
Custom domains
Custom Domains lets an admin add a sending domain without www or https. Copy the generated DNS records to your DNS host, then use Verify Records. Pending means verification is incomplete; Verified enables sending from your domain. You can change the sender prefix; the default sender is recoveries@dunning.website.
AI Copilot
Dunning Assistant is the floating workspace assistant available on authenticated dashboard pages. Ask about invoices, recovery configuration, or workflow behavior. Responses may use Markdown and can show a Thinking state or an error. Clear History opens a confirmation dialog and permanently deletes the assistant conversation; the interface also states that messages older than 30 days are automatically deleted. Do not submit secrets or unnecessary personal data.
Team management
Account contains personal settings plus Organization. Organization shows the active workspace, lets you edit its name, lists members and roles, and provides Invite Member. Invitations accept an email address and Admin or Member role. Admin permissions are required for sensitive workspace configuration such as recovery rules and provider credentials.
Billing & plans
Billing shows Payment Method, Subscription Plan, Micro-Invoices, and Subscription Receipts. Update payment method opens the external billing portal. Upgrade plan reveals available plans and Select opens subscription checkout. Micro-Invoices lists fee IDs, recovered invoices, amounts, due dates, and statuses. Unpaid success fees can suspend the workspace until the balance is cleared; receipts remain empty until they exist.
Security & compliance
Dunning uses authenticated, organization-scoped access, encrypted secret storage, tenant-aware database queries, encrypted connections, and audit records. This page does not represent a certification or guarantee a particular encryption algorithm or protocol version.
Data retention
Retention depends on the record type, operational needs, legal obligations, and workspace lifecycle. The application includes operational records, audit events, messages, agent runs, and memory items; it does not promise a universal 365-day schedule or automatic cold-storage export.
Manual synchronization
Use the manual synchronization action from the Invoices workspace when you need to request a fresh provider sync. The result depends on the connected provider and its available API data.
Human oversight & approvals
Guardrails can stop automation and create a human-review task for disputes, hostile messages, sensitive requests, or policy decisions that need attention. Review the task and choose whether to resume, pause, or close the run.
Audit logs & transparency
Agent runs and invoice activity create audit events with an actor, event type, related invoice or run, payload, and timestamp. Run History helps reconstruct classification, policy, tool execution, and review steps. These records help your team understand what happened; they are not a guarantee that every external provider action is reversible.
Secure payment links
Dunning is designed to hand payment collection to the connected billing or payment provider. Recovery links are generated through the selected provider path and included in messages when an action requires payment. Payment handling, card data, and link behavior remain subject to that provider.
